I can get virtual 7.1 out of the front panel jack, but the rear channels are too quite and the sub channel is silent, no matter how much I adjust that volume. It almost sounds like he has some sort of virtual given that it appears he is getting something of that effect though i do not see support listed (on the motherboard spec page, not sure about the manual).įtp /66.226.78.21/manual/Fatal1ty%20Z97%20Killer.pdf the manual for my motherboard says it supports 7.1 audio. If you do not have virtual surround support, you're not going to get 'surround' (i say this paraphrased since its faked) out of a 2.0 jack. basically the same thing 80% of headsets labeled 'surround' do (only very few are actually surround). basically it modifies the stereo signal (which is STILL a stereo signal) and distorts it to make it seem like it is 3d. eg dolby headphone, cmss3d, sbx, razer virtual surround.

What he is referring to (or needs/wants) is called virtual surround. I changed Realtek HD setting to original configuration which ignores the rear PC outputs when front panel jack is detected - original problem still exists.

I have changed the Realtek HD setting to output both rear and front of PC sound (only allows stereo in this configuration to front panel) and plugged headphones into the Orange C/Sub jack in the rear - I can hear the Center and Sub at normal volume when testing I have gone to the Realtek website and re-loaded the 64-bit drivers for Windows 10 - no change I have enabled 'Swap Center/Sub Output' - no change I have enabled Bass management - no change. Realtek HD is set up to ignore the rear PC audio outputs when front panel jack is detected. I can put a bandaid on the Side and Rear speakers by using Room Correction to adjust their volume, but I can't figure out what is happening with the Subwoofer. When I click test Front Left/Right are normal volume, Center is higher volume, Subwoofer is no volume, and Side/Rear Left/Right are lower volume. I have 'Configure Speakers' set to 7.1 Surround. I have my HD650 Headphones hooked into the front panel audio jack on my PC.

I then upgraded to Windows 10 last week and am trying to find out how to get the 7.1 sound to work on it. So I took out that soundcard and opted for stereo sound on my MOBO instead (I couldn't figure out how to get 7.1 from the MOBO to the front panel jack). I was using a Soundblaster X-fi Xtreme Audio 7.1 PCIe card to get 7.1 sound out of my PC only to discover that my Asrock Z97 Fatal1ty Killer MOBO won't support any extra occupied PCIe slots while I'm Crossfiring GPUs.
